Handsome ACD, young adult
This is Jalston, a young, a one year old male blue heeler. Jalston was given up by his previous family and surrendered to the local metro animal shelter. Although we are unsure of the circumstances surrounding his surrender, we speculate it was due, all or in part to, his very shy personality. It will take time to bond and earn Jalston's trust. We see this a lot with dogs who didn't get the proper socialization as a young puppy. Jalston is heartworm neg, neutered, and up to date om vaccinations. Jalston is a very sweet boy who gets along well with the other dogs and really just wants to make friends with everyone. He isnt leash trained and is very scared of a leash - we are working on that. He is very shy around new people but really wants to make friends with all humans and dogs he meets. Jalston will need a very patient owner who will give him time. He will learn to trust as he has with his foster mom. It just takes time, patience, good food, and treats! Jalston has made an amazing amount of progress at his foster home in the past couple of months. UPDATE 12/20/11: Jalston is doing very well in his foster home. Soon we will begin working on leash training. He's an awesome dog who is very smart, gets along well with other dogs, and does fine with the older children he's around. What Jalston needs is an owner with patience, someone who will give him time to get used to a new environment, and will spend time with him. He loves to go for walks and will run and play with the other dogs as much as he can. Jalston knows "sit," "down," and "stay." He's still scared of the leash so we are working slowly on learning to walk on a leash. On walks he stays beside his foster mom, never runs off. If you have the time and patience to give Jalston, he will give it all back in unconditional love and loyal companionship. Jalston is the true definition of "best friend!" For more information on adopting this dog, please email adoptions@alspca.org. The adoption fee is $125 and will go toward our vet expenses.
